Injection Molding of Thermoplastics
A thermoplastic is a material that becomes deformable or fluid at relatively high temperatures and solidifies when cooled.
Most thermoplastics are high molecular weight polymers. The most commonly used are polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polybutylene (PB), polystyrene (PS), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and polyamides (Nylon).
Injection molding is a semi-continuous process that involves introducing these types of molten polymers at high pressure into a closed mold with specific dimensions and shapes. The required part is formed by applying pressure and different curing times.
